Traditional method of ozone sterilization and disinfection for swimming pool water

The traditional theory of ozone disinfection for swimming pools holds that ozone is a very strong oxidant and toxic, so it is absolutely not allowed to enter the swimming pool. Due to the higher density of ozone compared to air, if it separates from water, it will float on the surface of the water, forming a high concentration ozone layer that can easily be inhaled by humans and cause poisoning. Therefore, before returning to the swimming pool after the reaction between water and ozone, it is necessary to use ozone removal equipment to prevent the remaining ozone from entering the swimming pool. After the ozone removal equipment, chlorine agents need to be added to maintain long-term sterilization effect.
The traditional ozone disinfection method for pool water treatment has the following characteristics:
The dosage of ozone is 0.8-1.0mg/1;
It is necessary to have a larger capacity ozone reactor to ensure that the contact reaction time between ozone and water is not less than 2 minutes;
Ensure that after the reaction between ozone and water, the remaining ozone concentration in the water is not less than 0.4mg/1;
Before entering the pool, use activated carbon to remove all remaining ozone;
After ozone disinfection, add chlorine disinfectant to make the residual chlorine reach 0.3-0.6mg/1.
In practical use, the above methods have the following questions:
◆ Ozone utilization rate question: Traditional swimming pool ozone disinfection processes require the removal of residual ozone. Standardize the demand for ozone concentration to be around 1.0mg/l, and if the remaining ozone concentration is greater than 0.4mg/l, the remaining 0.4mg/l ozone will be removed before it is used, which means that only around 0.5mg/l of ozone will be used, and the rest of the ozone will be wasted. And after removing ozone, chlorine needs to be added as a long-lasting disinfectant.
◆ Infrastructure investment question: According to the traditional ozone disinfection method for circulating water in swimming pools, the contact time between ozone and water should be at least 3 minutes. If the shortest contact time is 2 minutes, for a standardized pool (around 2400m3), the water treatment circulation flow rate is 400m3/h, and the 2-minute flow rate is 13.3m3. According to the demand, the filtration rate of the activated carbon filter tank is 30m/h, which requires an activated carbon filter tank with a filtration area of 13.3 m3. This will greatly increase the area of the machine room, and the cost of the ozone system will increase by more than 30%
In practice, if ozone is not removed, these questions may be resolved. Therefore, many units at home and abroad have discussed and used this method.
